How to use URL Encode & Decode
- Paste the text or URL part.
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Copy the result.
Common uses
- Building query strings with special characters.
- Decoding percent-encoded links from logs.
- Debugging redirect and callback URLs.
About this tool
Percent-encode text for safe use in a URL, or decode it back. The tool uses encodeURIComponent, which escapes reserved characters such as & = ? / # and spaces. It is useful for query strings, redirect parameters and debugging links.
Worked example
The text “a b&c=d” encodes to a%20b%26c%3Dd, so spaces, ampersands and equals signs no longer break a query string. Decoding reverses it.
Common problems and fixes
- Double encoding (%2520).
- The text was encoded twice. Decode once, then check the source of the double encoding.
- A + appears instead of a space.
- Forms encode spaces as + while other URLs use %20. Decode with the matching convention.
- Slashes get encoded.
- Encode only the value you are inserting, not the whole address, if you want the slashes to stay.

Frequently asked questions
What does the tool encode?
It uses encodeURIComponent, which escapes everything except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ).
Should I encode a whole URL?
Usually you encode individual values, not the whole URL, or the slashes and colons will be escaped too.
Why do I see %20 for spaces?
%20 is the percent-encoded form of a space, which URLs cannot contain directly.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files and text are never sent anywhere.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Very large files may be slow on older phones.
