About this tool
Create strong random passwords with the length and character sets you choose. Passwords are generated with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator and are never sent or stored by this site. Longer is stronger: 16 or more characters mixing several character sets is a good default, and a password manager makes unique passwords practical.
Worked example
A 16-character password using lower case, upper case, digits and symbols draws from about 94 characters, giving roughly 105 bits of entropy: far beyond what an attacker can guess offline. Length matters more than symbols, so a 20-character password with fewer symbols is also very strong.
Common problems and fixes
- A site rejects the symbols.
- Some sites allow only certain symbols. Turn symbols off and add length instead.
- I cannot remember it.
- Store it in a password manager rather than choosing something shorter.
- Reusing one password.
- Use a different password for every account, so one leak does not expose the others.
