About this tool
Remove the background of a photo using the U²-Net (u2netp) segmentation model, run with ONNX Runtime Web in your browser. The model produces a mask that becomes the image's transparency. Because it runs locally on your device, nothing is uploaded.
Tips and limits. This uses a small, fast U²-Net model (u2netp) that runs on your device. It works best on clear subjects with good contrast; fine hair and busy backgrounds can leave rough edges.
Worked example
Drop a portrait or product photo and the tool produces a PNG with a transparent background, using a compact AI model that runs in your browser. Plain, high-contrast backgrounds give the cleanest cut.
Common problems and fixes
- Hair and fur edges look rough.
- The model used here is small so it can run privately in a browser. Use the Touch up button to restore or erase areas by hand.
- Part of the subject disappears.
- Use Touch up with Restore, or try a photo with more contrast between subject and background.
- It is slow the first time.
- The model is downloaded once (a few MB) and cached. Later images are faster.

Frequently asked questions
How good is the cutout?
Good for clear subjects such as products and portraits. Complex edges like hair may be rough because the model is small.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The model runs on your device after a one-time download.
Why is the first run slow?
The engine and model (about 15 MB) download once and are cached.
What format is the result?
A PNG with a transparent background.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files and text are never sent anywhere.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Very large files may be slow on older phones.
