About this tool
Extract the text of a PDF into an editable Word (DOCX) file. Lines are grouped into paragraphs and each PDF page ends with a page break. Everything runs in your browser with PDF.js, so confidential documents are never uploaded. This is a text extractor, not a full layout converter: tables, images, columns and fonts are not reproduced.
Tips and limits. Layout is not preserved: images, tables and fonts are dropped and you get the text as paragraphs, one page per page break. Scanned PDFs have no text; use the image to text (OCR) tool on page images instead.
Worked example
A PDF with headings and paragraphs becomes a Word document with the same text in reading order. Tables, columns, images and exact layout are not preserved, because this tool reads the text only.
Common problems and fixes
- The Word file is empty.
- The PDF is probably scanned (images of text). Run the image-to-text (OCR) tool first.
- Tables turn into lines of text.
- Layout is not reconstructed. Use the PDF to Excel tool for simple tables, or copy them manually.
- The reading order is wrong.
- Multi-column PDFs read across the page. Split columns in Word after converting.
