About this tool
Find the number of days between two dates, plus an approximate breakdown in years, months and days. The order of the dates does not matter. Both dates are read as calendar dates in your local time.
Worked example
From 1 January 2026 to 1 March 2026 is 59 days, which is 8 weeks and 3 days. Leap years add a day to February, so the same range in a leap year would be 60 days.
Common problems and fixes
- Off by one day.
- Decide whether the start and end days are both counted. A simple difference excludes the start day.
- Months have different lengths.
- A difference in months is approximate. Use days for exact planning.
- Time zones.
- The tool compares dates, not times, so time zones do not affect the result.
